This blended-learning course is the final portion of the Small Craft Safety: Moving Water learning path. Volunteers learn to navigate a Class I or Class I/II river and practice moving water rescue skills and paddling strokes during a five-mile river float at Blue Springs Ranch near Bourbon, MO. This course is renewable every three years. Girl Scouts 16 years and older are welcome to participate. Scholarships are available. Participants must complete the Basic Water Rescue and Small Craft Safety: Canoeing blended-learning courses in their entirety, as well as the online portion of Small Craft Safety: Moving Water, before attending the in-person skills session. The in-person skills session requires strenuous physical activity on moving water while wearing a life jacket. Practicing these skills may result in minor scratches or bruises.
