Girl Scouts, their troop leaders, families, and friends can help individuals and families in need by participating in Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri’s largest community service program, April Showers.
All registered Girl Scouts are expected to participate in April Showers. We encourage families and friends to participate, too! April Showers is a great community service project for the whole family.
Information on all donation options will be visible starting March 11.
April 5-7 Door-to-Door Distribution
The first weekend, girls, their leaders and families distribute sticky notes door-to-door throughout the Council’s jurisdiction.
April 6 Showering the Community
Girl Scouts across eastern Missouri will host the annual “Showering the Community” event. Girl Scouts will set up mini collection sites, like a table or booth at participating stores in our jurisdiction to encourage donations and collect personal care items for individuals and families in need. Sign-ups for Showering the Community shifts at Schnucks and Dierbergs will be visible in mid-February.
April 13 Donation Collection
The second Saturday, girls return and collect donations of personal care items. These items are counted and donated to local pantries and shelters.
April 5-14 Online Registries/Passive Drive at Schnucks and Dierbergs Locations Available
Community members will be able to purchase donations online through Amazon’s Charity List or Target’s Charity Registry. Donations will be shipped directly to GSEM to be distributed to participating agencies. Links to the online registries will be visible on April 5.
Complete details of the April Showers program are available in this guide for troops/families to learn more about how to participate.
If your troop is participating in Showering the Community, read this guide for information on what to do when you are at the store, store guidelines and collection reporting.
You will receive your Participation Form from your April Showers Coordinator. It can be filled out digitally or you may print it out. The April Showers Participation form should be completed and given to the appropriate April Showers Coordinator at your designated collection site.
Counting/Sorting Registry Donations at Camp
Girls/troops can sign up to help us mark UPC codes, count and sort the items that are donated through the registries. Counting and sorting will be taking place on the following dates.
Check back after March 1 for more details about signing up!
The Need is Great
April Showers is Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri’s largest community service program that provides personal care items, not covered by government assistance programs, like shampoo, toothpaste, diapers and first aid supplies to individuals in need across eastern Missouri.
The first weekend, Girl Scouts go door to door distributing sticky notes on doors to announce the start of April Showers. Girl Scouts may also be seen outside area stores collecting person care items.
The second weekend, Girl Scouts return to collect any donations of personal care items. There is also the option for the community to donate online through one of our registries.
Personal care items collected by local Girl Scouts through April Showers represent 60 percent of all personal care items collected in our region. Since 1998, eastern Missouri Girl Scouts, their families and neighbors have collected more than 26 million personal care items.
Help us promote this campaign by using our Social Media Toolkit to guide you. This will be available after March 1.
