April Showers is Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri’s largest community service program. Girl Scouts, along with their troop leaders and families dedicate the month of April to collecting personal care items to donate back into their community to help those struggling to purchase them. Launched in 1998 to fulfill an oft-overlooked need, for 25 years the program has brought dignity and hope to others while instilling in girls of all ages a passion for community service.
We expect all Girl Scouts to participate, and we encourage their families and friends to join in the effort. Just as a single raindrop creates a splash that ripples outward, the April Showers community service project generates positive impacts that will be felt for years to come. Together, we make a difference!
Thank you to all the Girl Scouts, troop leaders and supporters who participated in April Showers this year! Because of your efforts, Girl Scouts was able to support hundreds of agencies across eastern Missouri. We donated more than 1.4 million essential personal care and hygiene items, including soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, period products, combs, shaving kits and more.
The 2022 Impact Sheet below demonstrates how the April Showers program benefits our community. The Donation Pathway infographic illustrates all the different ways donations were collected and who they benefit. Check it out!

The Need is Great
April Showers is Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri’s largest community service program that provides personal care items, not covered by government assistance programs, like shampoo, toothpaste, diapers and first aid supplies to individuals in need across eastern Missouri.
The first weekend, Girl Scouts go door to door distributing sticky notes on doors to announce the start of April Showers. Girl Scouts may also be seen outside area stores collecting person care items. The second weekend, Girl Scouts return to collect any donations of personal care items. There is also the option for the community to donate online through one of our registries.
Personal care items collected by local Girl Scouts through April Showers represent 60 percent of all personal care items collected in our region. Since 1998, eastern Missouri Girl Scouts, their families and neighbors have collected more than 25 million personal care items.
