Girl Scouts from Troop 333 have earned the prestigious Silver Award—the highest honor a Girl Scout Cadette can achieve—by transforming a newly built gifted learning facility at Lindbergh High School into a colorful, welcoming space designed to spark creativity and perseverance.
When the troop noticed the center’s bare walls, they envisioned an environment that would encourage students to embrace open-minded thinking. Their solution: a series of hand-painted canvas banners featuring vibrant designs and motivational quotes. The artwork can be displayed permanently or rotated throughout the building, ensuring flexibility as the school’s needs evolve.
The banners were unveiled to parents, educators, and students through the school’s weekly newsletter, and one troop member presented the project at a Parent-Teacher Group meeting to further involve the community.
For the Girl Scouts, the project was both meaningful and transformative.
“My favorite part was designing and creating the banners,” troop member Bristol shared. “I love art and creating things, so it was a lot of fun for me.”
“I developed good communication skills and learned how to actively communicate with principals and adults in charge effectively,” noted Caleigh.
The project not only enhanced the atmosphere of the learning center but also gave the troop members valuable experience in leadership, teamwork, and project management—key elements of the Girl Scout Silver Award process.
“We learned to advocate for ourselves, as well as set deadlines and schedule times to work,” said Sumaira.
The Girl Scout Silver Award is the highest honor a Girl Scout Cadette, girls in 6th-8th grades can achieve. It requires girls to identify a need in their community and dedicate on average more than 50 hours towards addressing and solving the issue. When Girl Scout Cadettes focus on an issue, they care about, learn the facts and take action to make a difference while gaining the confidence and skills that catapult them to lifelong success.
