St. Louis, MO – September 10, 2020 – Girls across eastern Missouri looking to join in on the innovative girl-led experience are invited to get a FREE sneak peek into the world of Girl Scouts! Throughout September, Girl Scouts is hosting exclusive “get to know you” parties. Girls, along with their parent or caregiver, can register for Girl Scouts online at girlscoutsem.org/join to receive an invitation.
The Girl Scout Leadership Experience is a one-of-a-kind leadership development program with proven results. Studies show Girl Scouts improves girls’ confidence and makes them better prepared for life’s challenges. That’s because Girls Scouts are dedicated to helping girls follow their hearts while discovering new interests, strengths and abilities. Whether she’s learning about STEM, the outdoors, entrepreneurship or essential life skills, she’s also exploring new ways to make her family and community stronger, kinder and better for everyone.
Community service is an integral part of being a Girl Scout, and now in these unprecedented times, eastern Missouri Girl Scouts are stepping up in big ways. Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri has teamed up with Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital so young change-makers can support first responders and patients by making and donating masks. Mira Lyer, a Girl Scout Robotics team member, is one of many girls determined to make a positive impact. While juggling her already busy high school schedule, Mira dedicates a couple of hours each day to sew masks for those in need.
“Giving back has always been really important to me, I love to serve,” Mira said. “I think Girl Scouts has had a lot do with that. I feel like now, in this pandemic, it was necessary to do something.”
While working together to accomplish a single goal, girls learn cooperation and build friendships. Sharing their time and resources helps girls increase their self-esteem and civic responsibility. Through September 30, girls are helping Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri reach our goal of donating 200 masks!
Along with inspiring community service projects, new Girl Scout badges are here! We’ve added even more skill-building, friend-making and life-changing experiences to the Girl Scout program. With 24 new badges, girls can practice ambitious leadership with four new categories: entrepreneurship, STEM career exploration, automotive engineering and civics. Combined with our existing programs, these new badges put girls on the path to a lifetime of adventure and success.
