On Saturday, April 13, thousands of eastern Missouri G.I.R.L.s (Go-getters, Innovators, Risk-takers, Leaders) TM are returning to neighborhoods to collect previously distributed recyclable plastic bags filled with shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, soap, disposable diapers and other personal care items. These donated essentials are going to more than 100 local shelters, pantries and other nonprofits who will directly distribute these to individuals and families in need.
TOGETHER let’s remind community members to fill their bags with personal care items and leave them outside their front door or porch for pick up on Saturday, April 13.
Girl Scouts is synonymous with giving back and for the past century, eastern Missouri G.I.R.L.s have been making a positive difference through girl-led initiatives including April Showers. Since 1998, local area Girl Scouts, with generous support from families, friends and neighbors, have collected more than 22 million personal care items. As many April Showers recipients are living at or below the federal poverty level, hundreds of thousands of households count on these life-changing donations.
For eastern Missouri residents who didn’t receive a bag but still want to help others, Girl Scouts will collect personal care items dropped off at participating Dierbergs locations through Saturday, April 20 and participating Schnucks locations through Tuesday, April 30.
