There’s a chance of showers, April Showers!

This year marks the 20th anniversary of April Showers, Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri’s largest, annual Council-wide community service project. Since the beginning of this initiative in 1998, eastern Missouri G.I.R.L.s (Go-getters, Innovators, Risk-takers, Leaders)TM have collected more than 21 million personal care items with generous support from their families, neighbors and communities.  Beginning, Friday, April 20 through Saturday, April 22, Girl Scouts and their families go door-to-door, distributing plastic bags, and return a week later to collect bags filled with personal care items.

Last year, Girl Scouts collected more than 1.3 million items including shampoo, toothpaste, soap, shaving cream, diapers and first-aid kits. Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri partners with Operation Food Search and more than 100 other nonprofits to distribute the collected items to individuals and families in need.

For eastern Missouri residents who don’t receive a bag but want to contribute to the project, Girl Scouts will collect personal care items at participating Walmart and Schnucks locations and other stores on Saturday, April 21. Below is a list of participating locations.
