Thank you for your interest in adult education courses available through the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri's Volunteer Development Program (VDP).
To accommodate the scheduling needs of members, the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri offers some courses in a home study format.
The purpose of home study courses is to provide individuals with the same basic information they would receive if they attended a classroom presentation. The home study format does not provide individuals with the interaction and feedback they would experience during a classroom presentation. Individuals who choose to complete a home study course are urged to attend neighborhood meetings and other gatherings where they can benefit from the experiences and knowledge of other Girl Scout adult volunteers.
Home study courses can be downloaded from this Web site or obtained from District Home Study Coordinators or District Training Managers, listed in the current issue of the Volunteer Development Bulletin.
Each home study course includes study pages. These pages and evaluation must be completed and sent to the District Home Study Coordinator or District Training Manager. When the manager or coordinator determines that the answers demonstrate an understanding of the course material, s/he will award a letter of completion.
Some home studies are supplemented by a video. Videos can be obtained from the District Home Study Coordinator or District Training Manager. Home study participants who cannot obtain a video will not be penalized if they are not able to answer the questions based on the video. Based on the resources available, participants should complete and submit the study pages and make arrangements to view the video at a later date.
Participants completing Job Orientation for Troop or Group Leaders,
Co-Leaders and Assistant Leaders must obtain an audiocassette
to complete the home study course. Cassettes can be obtained from
the District Home Study Coordinator or District Training Manager.
