Girl Scouts give sweet treats to thank those serving our country

St. Louis, MO – October 4, 2018 – This December, 15 G.I.R.L.s (Go-getters, Innovators, Risk-takers, Leaders) TM will have earned the opportunity to attend the USO of Missouri’s Holiday Block Leave at Lambert International Airport. These eastern Missouri Girl Scouts will pass out thousands of donated Fall Product Program treats to more than 5,000 U.S. military men and women who are coming home for the holidays.

Starting Saturday, Oct. 6, eastern Missouri G.I.R.L.s will go door-to-door with Fall Product order cards offering customers a chance to fund extraordinary adventures by selling magazine subscriptions as well as nuts and candy. By participating in the program, #fallproductbosses are learning skills that are essential to leadership, to success and to life: goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics.

The program also helps girls earn money for troop activities, including high adventure challenges offered at the organization’s three camp properties, field trips and service projects. By taking part in the Fall Product Program, Girl Scouts are powering an important community service program called Project Thank You. Through Project Thank You, charitable customers can give a $5 donation to provide one can of nuts or candy to U.S. military men and women. These donations are ultimately distributed through the USO of Missouri.

For the second consecutive year, the top 15 Girl Scouts who received the largest number of donated nuts and candies from Project Thank You are rewarded the opportunity to participate at the upcoming USO of Missouri’s Holiday Block Leave. Last year, Savannah Lamb, a ninth grade Girl Scout, was one of 15 girls who distributed these treats to the military service members who passed through the airport on their way home.

“My favorite part of the Holiday Block Leave was seeing the faces of the men and women light up when they heard we were giving them the Girl Scout nuts and candies,” Lamb said. “We were able to give back to those who are helping keep our country safe. They are doing everything they can for us so its nice to do things for them.”

Girl Scouts across the region are hosting Fall Product booths beginning Wednesday, Nov. 14. Booths will be set up at Walgreens locations, JoAnn Fabric & Craft stores, the Magic House, and Lowes locations to satisfy those sweet and salty cravings!

Fall Product Program goodies are available online and on order cards through the beginning of December. Customers can choose from a variety of treats including Dulce de Leche Owls, Deluxe Pecan Clusters, Dark Chocolate Caramel Caps with Sea Salt and Dill Pickle Peanuts. New this year are Almond Butter Cups and Buffalo Ranch Pretzel Mix.
