St. Louis, MO – February 14, 2017 – Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri is pleased to announce Wells Fargo as the presenting sponsor of the 2017 Shades of Green, to be held on October 28, 2017 at the America’s Center in downtown St. Louis. Held every five years, Shades of Green is the region’s premier gathering of girls in K-12 grades. More than 10,000 attendees are expected to attend the expo-type event, which features 100-plus exhibitors and highly-interactive, immersive activities where girls are able to explore new passions, build leadership abilities, and expand their confidence.

“Wells Fargo is committed to improving financial education in our community and Shades of Green is a perfect way to further that goal,” said Laraine Davis, community relations consultant for Wells Fargo in Missouri. “Through outreach, education and partnerships with youth-serving organizations like Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri, we are promoting leadership, diversity and financial empowerment. Shades of Green is particularly important because it is focused on building important life skills for tomorrow’s leaders.”

Since 1983, Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri has hosted six successful Shades of Green events drawing more than 75,000 attendees. In 2012, the youth organization celebrated the 100th anniversary of its chartering organization Girl Scouts of the USA with a family festival held in downtown St. Louis with more than 35,000 community members in attendance.

“Wells Fargo is a long-time supporter of Girl Scouts and we are grateful for their support of Shades of Green,” said Bonnie Barczykowski, CEO of Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri. “As the event itself is funded through ticket and merchandise sales, 100-percent of sponsor support enhances leadership development opportunities for our girls. This collaboration with Wells Fargo will allow us to bring new, vital experiences to our more than 44,000 girl members.”

Today, in eastern Missouri there are more Girl Scouts per capita than in any other region in the country. One in five or 22-percent of all girls in grades K-12 choose Girl Scouts in eastern Missouri. With Girl Scouts a girl discovers who she can be through progressive leadership experiences. Away from school pressures, social cliques and boys, she can be herself and try new things.

Shades of Green is open to all Girl Scouts and their families. Additional sponsorship opportunities are available.
