New Parent Guide to Girl Scouting

Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri’s mission is to build girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place. Our program is designed for girls from kindergarten through 12th grade and at every level, Girl Scouts have fun while being challenged to make the world a better place. When you're a Girl Scout, you're also a G. I. R. L. (Go-getter, Innovater, Risk-taker, Leader). Read on to discover what it means to be a G. I. R. L.

The Basics

Membership Dues
A $25 annual membership fee, due at the time of registration, goes directly to Girl Scouts of the USA and pays for the various services it provides to Councils, development of program materials and activity insurance.

Your Girl Scout’s troop might collect dues to pay for activity supplies, field trips, uniforms, service projects and more. Participating in the Fall Product and Girl Scout Cookie Program can help finance her troop’s activities! Girls can wear a sash, vest, tunic or official Girl Scout T-shirt as her uniform. Uniforms can be purchased at the Girl Scout Shop!

Grade Levels
Any girl in grades K–12 can join the fun at Girl Scouts. Whether you want to be part of a troop, sign up for exciting series or events, explore the outdoors, or travel the world, each age level has something for you. Girls are placed in the appropriate grade level according to her school grade.

Be The Role Model She’ll Always Remember

It starts with one day, one meeting and one role model who shows her she can accomplish more than she ever imagined. At Girl Scouts, we want every girl to feel so excited about her future because she knows she can achieve anything she sets her mind to. It begins with YOU!

There are tons of opportunities to volunteer, from troop leader to lending a hand at a meeting. Whatever time you can give to the girls is appreciated. Girl Scouts provides a wide range of resources and trainings to make volunteering easy and convenient.

Her Girl Scout Experience

Every year, you’ll receive two publications that highlight all the cool opportunities Girl Scouts offers!

Look for Inspire Discovery in your mailbox each August and January, with info on upcoming programs and events. Girls can attend programs with or without their troop.

The Camp Adventure Guide hits mailboxes in November and showcases Girl Scouts’ exciting camp opportunities.

At Girl Scouts we believe the value of the outdoor experience in a girl's life is beyond measure. When a girl spends time in nature she learns cooperation and team building as she develops the skills needed to grow into a leader of courage, confidence and character. Girls can attend camp programs with or without their troop.
