  Creative Arts
Maria McDonough, Home-School
Maria is an Irish culture extraordinaire.  For the past four years, she conducted a Summer Irish Dance Camp in her neighborhood, which has drawn over 50 children.  She is actively involved with Irish music (playing the accordion) and Irish dance, taking her talent to nursing homes, hospitals, benefit dinners, and local competitions.
  Entrepreneurship
Megan Corbin, Marceline High School
Thanks to Megan, the Cotton Cavanah Youth Center (west of Hannibal, MO) now houses an indoor skate park that provides a safe environment for approximately 50 skaters from four communities within a forty mile radius.  Megan brainstormed the idea, formulated a plan, rallied resources, and pulled together a team of volunteers to construct the indoor skate park.
  Government & Legal
Katie Nicholson, Pattonville High School
Katherine is involved in the debate and mock trial team, specializing in policy debate.  She mentors younger students and encourages her fellow classmates to vote in the presidential election by helping them register to vote.  Katherine advocated for Darfur with posters and pamphlets in a debate competition.
  Inspiration
Willeesa Martin, University City High School
Willeesa has positively impacted students through the TREND organization at her school. TREND stands for Turning Resources & Energy into New Directions and is part of the National Alcohol & Drug Association. She has also volunteered with Make-a-Wish Foundation, The Salvation Army, and University City Children’s Center through her involvement. In her four years at University City High School, Willeesa has completed 755 hours of community service and engaged in 63 activities.
  Numbers
Rachel Musick, St. Joan of Arc School
Rachel is in advanced math classes as an 8th grader.  For the second consecutive year, she has participated in Math Counts, a math competition sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers.  In 2007, Rachel and her teammate placed third in their category for a math competition for females in the St. Louis metro area hosted at Rosati-Kain High School.  Rachel is ambitious and continually challenges herself to do better.
  Practical Arts
Sarah Grover, Francis Howell Central High School
Sarah supplies and sews nursery care items for Calvary Church, Calvary Church West, Calvary Church at the Mills, Calvary Church’s Friend to Friend Bible Study, and the Little Friends Childcare program, and Calvary’s Vacation Bible School.  For her Girl Scout Gold Award, Sarah is re-supplying the nursery with new blankets, burp cloths, and sheets.  To do this, she solicited donations for the sheets and burp cloths and is sewing new blankets and floor play mats.
  Social Sciences
Theresa M. Jabouri, Rockwood Middle School
Theresa coordinated a massive campaign to collect and distribute books, crayons, and activity packs for six years.  Tens of thousands of books collected under her guidance have been distributed to SSM-Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, St. Louis Children’s Hospital, and other sites.  Today, children visiting these facilities go home with a book as a result of Theresa’s efforts.

Sports & Fitness
Amalia Rose Burkemper, Troy Buchanan High School
Molly is the track and field team captain and active in off-season football conditioning and weight-lifting classes.  As an athlete, Molly’s drive and determination have led her to be an outstanding team captain.  Molly creatively used her connection with the football team by having the entire team read to all the kindergartern and first grade students in the district.

  Technology
Theresa Johnston, Winfield High School
Louise has been influential in the success and increased development of robotics in the Winfield School District.  As an outstanding female role model in a male dominated profession, she helps her peers and younger students in development through areas of aptitude in robots, programming, engineering, design and construction, and competition.  As President of the Winfield Robotics Team, Louise was able to lead the team in achieving second place in a multi-district competition at General Motors. In her spare time, she taught herself to speak Japanese.

The Sciences
Elizabeth Brianne Karslake, Westminster Christian Academy
Elizabeth works with animals and has a desire to understand animal behavior.  For her Gold Award Project, she put together a program to help older children learn about wolves and their conservation.  She had the opportunity to work with Dr. Godfrey Bourne at the University of Missouri – St. Louis and authored a paper exploring how “shifts in South American Molly behavioral types are related to constant exposure to piscivore predation risks.”
