Strategic Planning to set a path for GSEM's future
In early 2009, Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri embarked on a strategic planning process to define specific goals that will help move the council forward in carrying out the Girl Scout mission.
The process:
- Board-appointed committees reviewed the areas of girl and adult membership, program/property, marketing, human resources, fund development, finance and administration
- Community leaders, Girl Scout volunteers and staff assessed our current state, demographic trends, and other youth-serving agencies, to establish baseline opportunities
- Integrated recommendations were prioritized relative to impact on achieving Girl Scout mission
- Action plans for each strategic recommendation will be outlined in FY10 for implementation in FY11
Currently, steps 1-3 above have been completed. Below is the outcome.
Proposed strategic recommendations:
MEMBERSHIP/HUMAN RESOURCES
▪ Sustain and grow girl membership
▪ Develop girl membership models that optimize Pathways
▪ Attract, develop and retain quality volunteers and staff
PROGRAM & PROPERTIES
▪ Focus Pathway programs on Journeys and Leadership Development
▪ Evaluate properties for alignment with members’ needs
▪ Maximize participation in product program activities
MARKETING
▪ Develop new brand strategy for GSEM
FUND DEVELOPMENT
▪ Build and diversify donor network and funding base
▪ Increase Board of Directors role in fund-raising
FINANCE & ADMINISTRATION
▪ Prudently manage risk and maximize all financial resources
▪ Invest in technology to improve efficiencies
Upon Board approval, action plans for each strategic recommendation will be outlined in FY10 for implementation starting in FY11.
