The foundation of Girl Scouting, since 1912, is the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Over the years the wording has changed but the basic values remain the same, building girls of courage, character and confidence, who make the world a better place.
Living the Girl Scout Law means not just reciting it. But encouraging girls to use it thoughtfully and often in everyday life to build the skills and confidence that will help them to define the personal values that will give meaning and direction to their lives.
The Girl Scout Promise
On my honor, I will try:
To serve God and my country,
To help people at all times,
And to live by the Girl Scout Law.
The Girl Scout Law
I will do my best to be honest and fair, friendly and helpful, considerate and caring, courageous and strong, and responsible for what I say and do, and to respect myself and others, respect authority, use resources wisely, make the world a better place and be a sister to every Girl Scout.
Some things to do to connect with these Girl Scout values:
- Each month choose an activity (see age level below) which represents a part of the Girl Scout Law and incorporate these activities as part of your troop/group meeting.
- Include the Girl Scout Law at each troop/group meeting, in an opening or special Scout’s Own ceremony.
- Earn the Girl Scout Challenge for your age level
