As a Girl Congress member, you may have an impact on GSEM!
NEW! We are currently accepting Girl Congress nominations for the next term (June 1, 2010 through May 31, 2011). The deadline for nominations is March 1, 2010. Contact Michelle Johnson for more information.
Girl Congress is comprised of Girl Scouts ages 14 and older, who have not yet graduated from high school. They are elected by their districts for a one-year term to represent the girl membership in their district.
Girl Congress reviews and gives input on proposed plans, policies, and other matters that the Board of Directors refers to it. They also get the opportunity to consider ways of improving the quality of Girl Scouting and perform other duties the Board of Directors gives to them. They may also wish to plan and implement a program for other Girl Scouts to participate in, such as a workshop or camp event.
Terms run June 1 through May 31. Girl Scouts interested in applying for the next term must submit nominations by the end of February each year. Each District will be entitled to elect two delegates from the nominations and two alternates. District Delegates of the Girl Congress also become members of the Representative Assembly.
This is a great leadership opportunity for girls who are active in Girl Scouting and their community, offering a chance for them to speak on behalf of their peers and use the leadership skills they’ve attained through Girl Scouts.
