youth leadership st. louis
Get to know the St. Louis region up close and personal!
NEW! Applications are being accepted for the 2011 school year. The deadline is March 1. Contact Michelle Johnson for more information/application.
Imagine the chance to work with over 100 high school students from all over the area. Consider how cool it would be to meet with the St. Louis mayor, take a county jail tour, or hear a first-hand account of the Holocaust.
These are all just a few of the experiences that Girl Scouts may participate in if they join the Youth Leadership St. Louis program through Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri.
GSEM selects a handful of girls each spring to participate in FOCUS St. Louis’ Youth Leadership St. Louis program for the next academic year. This program builds leadership skills, strengthens character, and promotes teamwork. Girls get hands-on experience in the St. Louis region’s political, arts, social service, and criminal justice systems.
The time commitment is one weekday and Saturday each month, October-April (no sessions in December) The program kicks off with an overnight retreat in September. During seminars, participants visit regional sites like St. Louis City Hall, meet with leaders, and participate in simulations.
The program is only open to Girl Scouts who will be entering their junior year of high school. Depending on the number of applicants, high school seniors may also be accepted.
To request an application, contact Michelle Johnson, Program Manager, in January or February, at 314.592.2344 or mjohnson@girlscoutsem.org.
