NEW!!
GSUSA Leading the Way destinations Opportunity
  • May 13-16 – Retreat
  • July 28-August 6, 2010 – Field Workshop
This is a two-part inclusive destination opportunity for Girl Scouts of all abilities ages 14-18 and girls with disabilities up to age 21 to explore conservation, culture and digital arts in the Southwestern US. Beginning with a 4-day training retreat in Estes Park, Colorado (May 13-16) girls will receive inclusion and adaptive travel training and a digital storytelling workshop from the Pearson Foundation (learn the best ways to get your story heard in our digital world!). The journey continues with monthly preparatory conference calls where girls explore topics such as: desert ecology, digital media communication, responsible tourism, conservation biology, Native American culture and much more! July 28-August 6 the adventure of a lifetime takes place while rafting the San Juan River in Utah and exploring the majestic Canyon de Chelly in Arizona. Girls will engage in hands-on science through sound research with the National Park Service Natural Sounds Program, participate in a meaningful service project with locals and further their leadership skill-sets while learning to work with a diverse team. Once home, girls will share the inspiration of their journey to much larger populations through a service leadership project and media outreach campaign. This destination will inspire change while obliterating barriers placed between those with and without disabilities.
