camp and H1N1 (swine flu)

GSEM camps are accredited by the American Camp Association.  Click here to view a video produced by ACA about H1N1.  Please take a moment to watch this video.

While the outbreak of the H1N1 has not directly impacted GSEM programs, to ensure a safe and healthy environment, GSEM is taking preventative action by:

    • Frequently monitoring local outbreak information
    • Following guidelines presented by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services and the St Louis Pandemic Prep organization.
    • Encouraging those who are exhibiting illness to refrain from participation in programs.
      • A health check is performed with campers as they check into resident camp sessions, including evaluation for contagious disease symptoms. Any camper exhibiting flu like symptoms, lice or nits or other contagious disease symptoms are sent home until symptoms clear up.
    • Encouraging frequent hand washing with soap and water or provide alcohol-based hand sanitizers if hand washing facilities are not available.
    • Making recommendations for the cancellation or postponement of programs and troop meetings based upon public health recommendations.

If you have additional questions please contact Jennifer Morgan, Director, Camping Services and Facilities, jmorgan@girlscoutsem.org, or call 314.592.2363.
