Did you know?

  • 1 in every 3 children under age 18 in Eastern Missouri lives in a family that receives SNAP benefits (formerly known as the Food Stamp Program).  Households cannot use SNAP benefits to purchase personal care items, household supplies and paper products.
  • 1 in every 7 children in Eastern Missouri between the ages of 5 and 17 years old lives in a family whose income is below the federal SNAP poverty line of $22,050.
  • Missouri food banks reported an increase in demand that ranged from 20% to 44% in 2009.

Girl Scouts, their troop leaders, families, and friends can help families in need through participating in Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri’s premier community service program, April Showers!

Make sure you attend your Neighborhood Association meetings in Jan. Feb., and/or M

arch to learn more about April Showers.  Your Neighborhood April Showers Coordinator will share how your troop can participate.  You’ll receive April Showers bags and key information including what area your troop will serve.

April Showers involves two weekends:

The first weekend, April 20, 21, and 22 is devoted to the door-to-door distribution of bags throughout the council’s jurisdiction.  Girls should not place April Showers bags in or tie to mailboxes; this is prohibited by the US Postal Service.

On the second Saturday, April 28, girls return and collect bags filled with personal care items.  Girls should only collect from residences where bags are left outside.  Girls should not knock on doors.

Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri encourages all April Showers Troop Reports to be completed within one day of April Showers collection.  Information about April Showers is used to report to the community the impact of the service provided by the girls.  Help us tell the success story of this amazing service program by reporting immediately after the items are delivered to the collection site.
