Since 1996, all lifeguards for the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri facilities (Camps Cedarledge, Fiddlecreek and Tuckaho) have been required to attend an annual in-service training before they can lifeguard on council-owned properties to orient lifeguards to council procedures, evaluate skills and increase safety at the council’s pools and lakes.
At the time of the Lead & Learn’s publishing, the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri was in the process of updating the in-service program to meet the needs of the council and its membership.
Starting in March 2014, all lifeguards who wish to lifeguard on council-owned properties must:
- Have a valid American Red Cross Lifeguard certification. ARC lifeguard certification is valid for 2 years. It is the responsibility of the lifeguard to maintain their own certification.
This means that our members can go to www.redcross.org to sign up for a class (review course or full class) or they can go to their own local aquatic facilities who are offering American Red Cross training.
- Attend an annual in-service review of Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri Waterfront Manual at the Girl Scout Service Center.
To register for an in-service, please go to www.girlscoutsem.org > Register Online
