Horseback Riding

The Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri Equestrian Center is located at Camp Cedarledge in Pevely, Mo., approximately 45 minutes southwest of the City of St Louis.  Built in 1996, the Equestrian Center consists of stables for up to 35 horses, three grazing pastures and a covered riding arena. The Equestrian Center sits atop a beautiful hill, providing fantastic views of the surrounding area and pleasant breezes on warm summer days.

Programming at the Equestrian Center includes fall and spring troop programs as well as eight weeks of horse programs during summer resident camp. All equestrian programs follow Girl Scouts of the USA safety activity standards outlined in Safety Activity Checkpoints.

In 1994, the State of Missouri passed a statute requiring that participants be advised, “Under Missouri Law, an equine professional is not liable for an injury to or death of a participant in equine activities resulting in the inherent risk of equine activities pursuant to Revised Statutes of Missouri.”

Programs

Pony Tales (90 minute program)
Come discover the wonderful world of horses at Camp Cedarledge. Gain confidence in your ability to ride a horse and take pride in the accomplishment of doing so. Learn to control a horse while under the lead of an experienced Wrangler and other new skills such as how to correctly mount a horse, grooming techniques to keep the horses coat healthy and ways to distinguish the moods of a horse. Girls will leave inspired to tell others about their experience with horses.
Program Level: Daisy and Brownie
Dates: May 2,3,9,10,16,17,23 and 24
Times: 9 am, 10:30 am, 1:30 pm or 3 pm
Cost: $20 per person (girls only)
Hoofprints (90 minute program)
Gain a stronger appreciation for animals and nature while meandering through the beautiful woodlands of camp on horseback. Learn to cooperate with your fellow troop members while also practicing your horse skills independently a little bit too. Girls will strengthen communication skills, practice patience with horses and each other and grow in confidence with their horseback riding skills. Girls will leave inspired to tell others about this majestic beast.

Dates: May 2,3,9,10,16,17,23 and 24
Times: 9 am, 11 am, 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm
Cost: $30 per rider
Saddle Scout (Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri Horse Patch-3 hour program)
This amazing patch program empowers girls to ask questions, think critically and come away with a new found respect for horses. Girls will learn how their behavior affects a horse and develop more confidence around them. Girls will leave the program feeling they made a difference to horses by helping us and a local horse shelter with their contributions.
Program Level: Girl Scout Junior, Cadette, Senior and Ambassador
Dates: May 2,3,9,10,16,17,23 and 24
Times: 9:30 am and 2 pm
Cost: $45 per rider
Troop Ride and Cookout (3 hour program)
Girls will spend a magical evening growing in appreciation of their natural surroundings. They will learn to cooperate with others while also learning to be self reliant while on their trail ride. A tasty cookout prepared by the best Wranglers this side of the Mississippi will be awaiting you when you return from your trail ride. Girls will leave with a new respect for these gentle creatures and the role they play at camp.

Dates: May 2, 9,16 and 23
Times: 4:30-7:00 pm only
Cost: $40/per rider
$7/non-rider who will participate in cookout
